Has anyone ever seen this in their herd? It’s quite common to see, and while not a life or death emergency, it is very important to be fixed as quickly as possible. You see, this is a prolapsed vagina. This commonly happens in cows that are about to calve and have very little space left in their abdomen. If left alone, it could cause complications in birth and infection. Don’t confuse this with a prolapsed uterus, which is much bigger and had buttons in it. A prolapsed uterus is a life and death emergency and need to be seen immediately! Please call me at (540)315-3500 if you see something ain’t right! Be safe and stay warm!

Calving season is upon us! Remember that heifers need to be watched closely, and if there is no progress within 30 minutes after seeing feet or the bag, she may need help! And calves need to be watched to make sure that they drink colostrum. They should be up and drinking within 2 hours.
